The organizer and coordinator of the price boycott in Croatia, the Facebook group Halo, inspektore (Hello, inspector) led by the consumer association ECIP, announced for Friday a boycott of all shops and products, both physically in the shops and online. So far, the boycott did not include small family stores and online shopping.

On Thursday, another boycott began - for one week. A boycott of three specific retailers and three types of products - all types of carbonated beverages, bottled water and laundry detergents - has been announced until the evening of February 5.

The motives for the boycott are related to consumer dissatisfaction with high prices and insufficient control of retailers' actions. This initiative comes at a time when inflation continues to affect citizens' living standards and the public increasingly blames retailers for unjustified price increases. Citizens are looking for change and are increasingly vocal in their dissatisfaction with the current market situation.

“Unbridled price rises is profiteering at the expense of consumers who are left unprotected from the winds of greed and insensitivity. So we say: Enough!", portal danas.hr quotes the organizers of the boycott.

The online edition of the newspaper 24sata posts data on the price of bread over the last five years. According to Eurostat data quoted by the newspaper, bread prices in European countries have increased significantly, with the largest increase recorded in Hungary, where the price of bread rose by as much as 113%. Poland followed with a price increase of 75%, while North Macedonia came third with a 65% rise.

Other countries with large bread price increases include Slovakia (62%), Romania (55%) and the Baltic countries of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, where prices have also risen significantly. In Croatia, the price of bread increased by 58%, while neighbouring Slovenia recorded a 36% rise.
