site.btaTurkiye’s Military Eliminates 13 PKK/YPG Fighters in Northern Iraq and Syria
Thirteen fighters from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and People's Protection Units International (YPG) were eliminated by the Turkish army during operations in northern Iraq and Syria, the Ministry of National Defence of Turkiye said on its social media account on X on Friday.
Six fighters were neutralized in the Gara region of northern Iraq, while another seven were eliminated in areas where the operations Peace Spring and Euphrates Shield were conducted in northern Syria, the statement said.
The PKK and its Syrian offshoot YPG have been engaged in an armed struggle against the Turkish state since 1984 and is considered a terrorist organization by Ankara, the EU, and the US. Tens of thousands have died in the conflict. PKK fighters have bases in northern Iraq and are active in northern Syria.
