The exhibition Memory for the Future at the National Museum of Military History (NMMH) presents some of the most valuable exhibits received by the museum in 2024. “Every single item, even a tiny one, every single donation really helps to preserve our national identity,” the NMMH team told BTA.
"Each item tells its own story and helps to show history from many different perspectives. Donations with their stories help us relate the different nuances to the historical events of our past. There are over 800 donations that we have received in 2024, and due to the limited space here we can only show a fraction of them. Our branches in Varna and Plovdiv are also doing donation exhibitions, so that visitors can see a wider variety of items," said Slaveya Surcheva, director of the museum's PR department.
"We begin every year with an exhibition of items that were donated to us over the previous year. They come from our donors or the structures of the Ministry of Defence and the Bulgarian Army. Donation is an exceptional act that helps us to enrich our collections and find even more pieces of the puzzle of our past," Surcheva said.
"This year’s exhibition features many uniforms, orders, decorations, various albums and photos, including firearms. Curious exhibits are radios, cameras from the 1940s, 1950s - a variety of items that render different shades to our near and more distant past," she added.
