In October 2024, Bulgaria experienced the largest monthly decrease in industrial producer prices among European Union Member States, with a drop of 2.9%, according to first estimates from Eurostat made public on Wednesday.
On a year-on-year basis, industrial producer prices in this country decreased by 3.1%.
In October 2024, industrial producer prices increased by 0.4% month-on-month in both the euro area and the EU. In September 2024, industrial producer prices fell by 0.6% in both the euro area and the EU.
Compared with October 2023, industrial producer prices in October 2024 decreased by 3.2% in the euro area and by 3.0% in the EU.
Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State
In the euro area in October 2024, compared with September 2024, industrial producer prices decreased by 0.1% for intermediate goods; increased by 1.4% for energy; remained stable for capital goods; increased by 0.3% for durable consumer goods; increased by 0.2% for non-durable consumer goods.
Prices in total industry excluding energy remained stable.
In the EU, industrial producer prices decreased by 0.1% for intermediate goods; increased by 1.1% for energy; remained stable for capital goods; increased by 0.3% for durable consumer goods; increased by 0.2% for non-durable consumer goods.
Prices in total industry excluding energy remained stable.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Estonia and Italy (both +1.0%), France (+0.9%) and Sweden (+0.8%). The largest decreases were observed in Bulgaria (-2.9%), Slovakia (-2.0%) and Romania (-1.5%).
Annual comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State
In the euro area in October 2024, compared with October 2023, industrial producer prices decreased by 0.5% for intermediate goods; decreased by 11.2% for energy; increased by 1.3% for capital goods; increased by 0.7% for durable consumer goods; increased by 1.8% for non-durable consumer goods.
Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.8%.
In the EU, industrial producer prices decreased by 0.6% for intermediate goods; decreased by 10.2% for energy; increased by 1.5% for capital goods; increased by 0.4% for durable consumer goods; increased by 1.7% for non-durable consumer goods.
Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.7%.
Among Member States for which data are available, the largest annual decreases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Slovakia (-20.4%), Luxembourg (-6.4%) and France (-5.7%). The highest increases were observed in Czechia (+0.8%), Malta (+0.7%) and Sweden (+0.4%), the EU’s statistical office said.
