Speaking to journalists here on Tuesday in response to the current protests by farmers, Vice President Iliana Iotova said that the question is to protect their interests of Bulgarian farmers, "moreover, we are indebted to them, because when signing the treaty with the EU significant omissions were made, of which nowadays we see the results".

The question is not who got how much money, who did what, who protested and why on the eve of the [government] rotation," Iotova said, adding that these arguments are ridiculous.

"I hope a reasonable solution to the farmers' protests will be found," she added, pointing out that she did not accept the Prime Minister's tone during Monday's Council of Ministers, which she said was based on the principle of "divide and conquer".

"There is a problem with the implementation of the Green Deal, mainly more for producers in Western Europe, there is also a problem for countries like ours regarding duty-free imports from Ukraine, so all the problems should be analysed and the best solutions found," Iotova added.

"We need to see how the market will be regulated with imports from non-EU countries, as European agriculture becomes uncompetitive if all regulations are observed," Iotova added.
