The total number of nights spent in accommodation establishments in October was 1,066,600, 4.4% more than a year earlier, the National Statistical Institute said. Bulgarian residents spent 701,900 nights and nonresidents spent 364,700 nights in accommodation establishments.

There were 2,232 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with 10 or more bed-places - with 70,700 rooms and 150,600 bed-places in them. In comparison with October 2022, the accommodation establishments increased by 1.4% and the bed-places in them went up by 5.5%.

Four- and five-star accommodation establishments accounted for 73.8% of the nights spent by non-residents and for 41.5% of the nights spent by Bulgarian residents. Three-star establishments accounted for 16.6% of all nights spent by non-residents and 29.2% by Bulgarian residents. The respective figures for 1- and 2-star establishments were 9.6% and 29.3%.

Compared with October 2022, the number of arrivals increased by 1.8% to 493,400. An increase by 9.6% for non-residents, and a decrease by 1.2% for Bulgarian residents was reported. The Bulgarian residents were 344,500 and spent 2.0 nights on average. The were 149,000 arrivals of non-residents, who spent 2.4 nights on average.

The total occupancy rate of the bed-places was 23.9%, up by 0.6 percentage points from a year earlier. The highest occupancy rate, 27.7%, was reported for bed-places in 4- and 5-star accommodation establishments, followed by 3-star establishments (25.9%) and 1- and 2-star establishments (17.0%).

In October 2023, the total revenues from nights spent increased by 17.7% from a year earlier to BGN 83.8 million. Bulgarian residents accounted for BGN 49.6 million and non-residents contributed BGN 34.2 million in revenues.
