The Federation of Transport Unions (FTU) with the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) is launching staggered protests across the country from Monday over the upcoming adoption of the state budget and the insufficient funds allocated for sustainable wage growth in urban transport, the FTU said.

CITUB and FTU are demanding an extra BGN 37 million in the state budget for pay rises in urban transport.

Protest signs will be placed on public transport vehicles, at ticket offices and at employees' workplaces. This is just the first step in the peaceful expression of discontent with the proposed 2024 State Budget Bill.
