The American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria will present the second edition of the U.S.-Bulgaria Economic Partnership: Investments, Labor, and Trade (1990-2022) Report at BTA's National Press Club on Monday. It was drawn up in cooperation with the Institute for Market Economics (IME), AmCham Bulgaria said.

The presentation will highlight the latest summarized data on Bulgaria-US trade relations, as well as the importance and impact of US and Canadian investors in Bulgaria.

The report analyses foreign direct investments by companies with ultimate beneficial owners in the United States and Canada in the 1990-2022 period. AmCham said this edition builds on the 2018 report, which provided the first real assessment of US investments in Bulgaria, their size, impact and presence by region. The study includes a special section on Canada's investments in Bulgaria.

US investments in Bulgaria in 1990-2022 topped BGN 5.5 billion and created nearly 41,000 jobs. In comparison, the 2018 study reported over BGN 4 billion in investments. Most US investors are concentrated in manufacturing, energy, ICT and trade. US companies are also present in seven other sectors.

Foreign direct investment from Canada totalled BGN 1.1 billion (compared to Bulgarian National Bank data, which put it at BGN 90 million). Those investments have created nearly 5,200 jobs in three regions. Canadian companies operate in the mining and shared services industries.

AmCham Bulgaria CEO Ivan Mihaylov and IME Executive Director Svetla Kostadinova will make opening remarks. IME Chief Economist Latchezar Bogdanov will present the report.
