A forum of the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IAE) is taking place Tuesday at Hotel Expo Sofia. This year it takes the form of an international scientific symposium in partnership with the European Rural Development Network (ERDN), the organisers said.

The forum brings together authoritative national and international participation (online and in-person) and focuses on the latest challenges facing agriculture and rural areas.

The event is attended by leading scientists and researchers from different countries and scientific organizations to compare their research and reflections on agricultural development, opportunity and economic sustainability under new challenges and goals.

Nowadays, in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and the economic crisis, the agricultural and food supply chain is facing challenges that affect and resonate across all its actors and stages, raising questions about food security, production stability, prices and the safety net, the organisers of the event said.

The aim of the forum is to highlight ideas and conclusions for new horizons of agricultural development in the context of the ecological vision, food security, and the global food market in times of war. Agricultural economists are expected to facilitate policy makers, agribusiness and eco-measures in the spirit of common balance.

Key thematic areas include prices, markets and policies, the role of agriculture in sustainable development, and rural futures and viability.
