Agriculture and Food Deputy Minister Deyan Stratev participated in the opening of the 46th annual meeting of the General Commission for Fisheries for the Mediterranean Sea, which takes place from November 6 to 10, in the city of Split, Croatia. Representatives from twenty-two EU countries will take part in the meeting, said the Agriculture Ministry on Monday.

The main objective of the General Commission is to ensure the protection and sustainable use of living marine resources, as well as the development of aquaculture in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.

With regard to the Black Sea, it is expected that the levels of total allowable catch for turbot and sprat stocks for 2024 will be approved and a decision will be made to transfer the quantities not used by Bulgaria under the turbot quota.

The agenda of the meeting includes the topics of decarbonization and sustainable feed production in the aquaculture sector and monitoring programmes related to this sector.
