Since the start of the tourist season on the Danube in March, more than 70 cruise ships have docked at the port of Vidin. If in March only 6 ships had anchored at the port, in April their number was 26, and in May up until May 22 - 43.

By the end of the season on December 27, the port of Vidin will have received 294 ships according to the preliminary schedule announced by the Bulgarian tour operators Balkan Tours and Danube Tours, according to a report of the port administration in the Danube city.

The tourists, mainly Americans, Australians, Germans and Japanese, visit the historic Baba Vida fortress, the Kaleto fortress in Belogradchik, have a walking and cycling tour in the Danube-side park of Vidin, visit and taste local wineries. Their evenings end on board the ship with a folklore programme performed by Vidin amateur artists.

Since the beginning of the year until the end of April, one of the most visited destinations by Bulgarian and foreign tourists, Belogradchik Rocks and the Kaleto Fortress, have been visited by 21,820 visitors, of whom over 2,700 were foreign tourists, mainly travelling on cruise ships, Rosen Mladenov, Deputy Mayor of Belogradchik Municipality, told BTA.
