Divers in Burgas have mapped and described in detail some of the most interesting underwater sites on the Southern Black Sea coast, the Friends of the Sea - Burgas non-profit association said on Monday.
The detailed online map, which is the first for Bulgaria, includes the water area from Nessebar to the village of Rezovo. It covers 28 of the most attractive diving sites that are of interest to underwater sports enthusiasts. Volunteers from Friends of the Sea – Burgas have also put 25 signposts, some of them with information and maps for more than one diving spot.
The map also contains information about the diving centres operating along the Southern Black Sea coast. The non-profit association said it would keep adding information on new diving sites.
The current map includes, among others, the Kamenna Gora near Sozopol, the St Anastasia underwater chapel, the statue of the saint near St Anastasia Island, the sunken ships Mopang, Pioner and Rodina and the shipwrecks Jacques Fraissinet and St Nikola.
The project was implemented with the active participation of divers Dr Stefan Mirinchev, Nikolay Zhelev, Stoyan Dimitrov, Yonko Dimitrov and Pavel Mirinchev. The initiative funded by the Friends of the Sea - Burgas aims to protect the coast and develop diving in the region.
