Resolution 291 was introduced in the US House of Representatives, proposing March 2025 to be designated as "Bulgarian-American Heritage Month" to honour the contributions of Bulgarian immigrants and their descendants in the United States, the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington, DC, said on Facebook.
The resolution highlights the achievements of Bulgarians in various fields, their impact on American culture, and the historical and diplomatic ties between the two nations. Special emphasis is given to the Bulgarian alphabet, developed at the Preslav Literary School in the 9th century, as a part of the world's cultural heritage, said the Embassy.
The resolution says Americans have the opportunity to appreciate Bulgarian culture and history, recognize their role in enriching diversity in the United States, foster cooperation with Bulgaria in areas such as innovation, research, high technology and culture, and strengthen strategic partnerships, allied and friendly relations between the US and Bulgaria.
