The National Association of Mayoralty Mayors in the Republic of Bulgaria will join a protest against the poor road condition across the country. The protest will take place in the villages of Telish and Radomirtsi, North Central Bulgaria, on April 12, said Siyka Surkova, Deputy Chair of the Management Board of the Association and Momchilovtsi Mayor.

Surkova said that she and her colleagues will also protest against "allowing numerous deaths [on the road], which is absurd for Europe in the 21st century". She reported that every fourth Bulgarian lives in small settlements, and the roads there are often dangerous and difficult to pass even for ambulances and fire brigades. The Association of Mayors calls on institutions to guarantee the protection of basic human rights, such as the right to life, the right to safe movement, and the right to medical care.

On April 1, the Interior Ministry's Pleven Regional Directorate reported the death of a 12-year-old girl who had been injured in a traffic accident near Pleven the day before. The Road Infrastructure Agency said after the accident that the road was in good condition, without any surface flaws or potholes. However, this has been the third fatality on the Telish - Radomirtsi section of the I-3 road since February 2025.

The Association insists on an objective investigation, a fair trial and sentences for anyone who guilt is proven, whether they are drivers who caused death through negligence, whether they are contractors, supervisors or whether they have commissioned substandard road repairs.
