site.btaTourism Ministry to Work on Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis's Inclusion in UNESCO World Heritage List

Caretaker Tourism Minister Evtim Miloshev and America for Bulgaria Foundation (ABF) President Nancy Schiller have discussed priority opportunities for future cooperation, the Tourism Ministry said in a press release Wednesday. Miloshev said during the meeting that inclusion of The Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis (today's Plovdiv) in the UNESCO World Heritage list is an “inspiring cause” and the Ministry will work hard until it becomes a reality.

The Bishop's Basilica is an example of how the ABF supports world cultural heritage and Bulgaria in the development of cultural tourism, the Minister said. 

The ABF President noted that the inclusion of the Basilica in the UNESCO World Heritage List will be extremely useful because it will attract tourists. “We are ready to pool our efforts to make this a reality”, Schiller pointed out.

As a priority for tourism development in Bulgaria, Miloshev pointed the preparation of a digital map of cultural and historical sites in Bulgaria and the restoration and modernization of thermal facilities in the country. The Minister also highlighted his support for the Foundation's projects related to the development of the tourism sector.
