The non-financial enterprises performing economic activity in Burgas Region in 2023 were a little over 32,600, out of which more than 24,500 made a profit at the end of the year, according to data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) released on Wednesday.
The data shows that there is a steady growth of companies reporting positive financial results in the last five years in Burgas. The enterprises had a positive financial result of BGN 1.5 billion at the end of 2023. The realized net revenue from sales was over BGN 26 billion, with a production value of just over BGN 19 billion. Nearly 118,000 people were employed in non-financial enterprises in 2023 in the region. The local economy in Burgas continued to be dominated by micro-enterprises with up to nine employees, which represented nearly 95% of the total number of enterprises in the region. Small companies with up to 49 employees had a share of 4.5% while medium and large enterprises remained below 1%.
The net sales revenue of the service sector in Burgas Region was BGN 4.6 billion, and its production was worth BGN 4.4 billion. The sector employs 53,000 people, making up almost 45% of the total number of people employed in non-financial enterprises in Burgas. The final financial result of the enterprises of the sector for 2023 was a profit of BGN 682 million.
More than 26,000 people were employed in the second largest sector in Burgas in 2023, namely Trade and Repair of Cars and Motorcycles. In 2023, commercial enterprises in this sector realized a positive financial result of BGN 303 million.
