Bulgarian customs officers have seized a large amount of Freon being transported without proper shipping documents in a semi-trailer truck en route to Romania. The vehicle, driven by a Bulgarian national, was stopped for a roadside check on the ring road in Vidin (Northwest Bulgaria) on January 19, as it was approaching the Danube Bridge border checkpoint, according to the National Customs Agency.

An X-ray inspection made at the Vidin Customs Bureau found areas of unusual density, and when customs officers opened boxes listed in the transport documents as containing chains for transport machinery, they discovered that the boxes were filled with metal cylinders labelled as Freon. The total amount of gas found was 1,620 kg. Since no documentation for the Freon was provided, it was seized for further investigation into its status and ownership, the Agency said.
