Customs Agency officers seized 356 kg of cannabis concealed as car accessories in a parcel shipment from the U.S., the Agency said in a press release on Wednesday.
On January 10, officers from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department of Sofia Customs conducted an inspection at a warehouse of a freight forwarding company in Sofia. According to the transport documents, the goods were declared as car accessories sent from the U.S. to a legal entity in Bulgaria. The parcel was intended to be redirected to another country.
During the customs check, it was found that the shipment consisted of boxes containing factory-vacuumed and sealed polyethylene bags, sprinkled with coffee to mislead the customs dogs. The customs officers confirmed that the bags contained a green plant material with a distinct odour, which tested positive for marijuana.
The drug has been seized, and the investigation is ongoing. A pre-trial procedure has been initiated under the supervision of the Sofia City Prosecution Office.
