Science is now trying to grapple with global climate change and it is best studied in Antarctica which has remained largely intact from human activity, and Bulgarian research in Antarctica - and not only there - should continue to develop, Prof. Nesho Chipev, member of the Board of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, said in Sofia Thursday. He was among the guests at a presentation of a new issue of BTA's LIK magazine dedicated to Bulgarian Antarctic research.

He thanked BTA and LIK for covering extensively the 32nd Bulgarian Antarctic expedition.

He told the event about the long journey of Bulgaria to Antarctica in the past years. In 1993, he participated for the first time in a Bulgarian Antarctic expedition, and has since been in five Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions.

He stressed that at that time, years ago, there was great enthusiasm for Bulgaria to enter the Antarctic community, and the way to do so was through scientific research. He said that a group of like-minded people, led by Prof. Christo Pimpirev, started the Bulgarian expeditions to Antarctica.

Also attending the presentation of the new LIK at the BTA National Press Club were researchers on the 32nd expedition to Antarctica Tihomir Stefanov, Tsvetan Parov, Marina Velikova, Albena Alexandrova and Yordan Yordanov, among others.
