site.btaInternational Book Fair to Take Place December 5-10 in Sofia

The 50th edition of the International Book Fair will take place in Sofia between December 5 and 10, Sofia Municipality said in a press release on Friday. The event is organized by the Bulgarian Book Association (BBA) and will be held under the motto "We Create Stories. We Create History".

More than 170 publishers will present their latest and most popular books for children and adults. Visitors will be able to choose from more than 100,000 works and will have an opportunity to meet authors, illustrators and translators from all over the world. The organizers have prepared special activities and surprises.

BBA President Desislava Aleksieva stressed on the growing problems with literacy and pointed out that such events reverse the negative trends that people do not read enough. In her words, the Fair is an extremely effective way of raising reading levels, which in turn is the basis for increasing literacy, she added.

The Sofia International Literary Festival (11th edition) and the Sofia International Literary Festival for Children and Youth (7th edition) will be held within the Fair. The festivals will bring together more than 16 leading names in contemporary Scandinavian and world literature who will meet their Bulgarian readers for the first time.

The Sofia International Book Fair, Sofia International Literary Festival and Sofia International Literary Festival for Children and Youth are organized by BBA with the support of Sofia Municipality. The events are part of the Sofia Cultural Events Calendar. BTA is a media partner of the event.
