Police officers in Burgas detained a Ukrainian citizen for phone scam, the press centre of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

The victim of the scam was an 81-year-old woman in the seaside city, who informed the police that she had received a call from an unknown man, introducing himself as a police officer. He had asked the pensioner to hand over all her money and valuables to the police in order to protect herself from telephone fraud. The woman then collected the amount of BGN 900, EUR 500, gold earrings and rings, and threw them all out the window of her apartment.

The Ukrainian citizen was detained for up to 24 hours and has made a full confession.
