Servicepersons from 101st Mountain Infantry Regiment of the Bulgarian Land Forces and members of the Romanian Armed Forces are conducting joint mountain warfare training between February 24 and 28, the Defence Ministry in Sofia said on Monday.
The training is proceeding in a real-life setting on mountainous terrain which presents a high level of difficulty. The troops are practicing movement in difficult conditions using skis and snowshoes. They are expected to improve their skills of surviving and firing in highland forests.
The event is aimed to improve the interoperability between the two allies, share good practice and enhance the troops' skills to operate in areas that are hard to access. The initiative is part of Bulgaria's cooperation with Romania in the field of defence and in strengthening regional security, the press release said.
