Bulgaria’s Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova has met with Bulgarian-Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Valeri Delibaltov to discuss ways to advance bilateral cooperation, the National Assembly’s press service said on Monday. A delegation led by Delibaltov is visiting Sofia. It includes Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban, Comrat Mayor Sergey Anastasov, and Taraclia Mayor Veaceslav Lupov.

Parliament Chair Kiselova said that Bulgaria and Moldova enjoy long-standing friendly relations, adding that the Bulgarian community in Moldova has played a key role in strengthening these ties. Bulgaria supports Moldova’s European aspirations, understanding that EU membership is a guarantee of peace in Europe, Kiselova said.

Delibaltov noted that the Bulgarian community in Moldova "serves as a bridge between the two friendly countries". He added that during its visit to Sofia, the delegation will explore ways to boost economic ties, trade and investment, and discuss labour migration, social policy, and cultural exchanges between Bulgaria and Moldova, among others.

Kiselova spoke about upcoming amendments to the Bulgarian Citizenship Act, stressing that the acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship has been a long-standing issue. The Parliament Chair said that amendments aim to improve the legal framework and better meet the expectations of Bulgarians living abroad, she added.
