It is difficult to convey a hundred pages in a few sentences, but the highlights in the government's programme are first of all financial stability and economic competitiveness, which goes through a course of gradual budget consolidation, meaning Bulgaria to stop accumulating deficits and to strive for a balanced budget, Tomislav Donchev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth, said at the beginning of an extraordinary government meeting on Monday.

In his words, the government programme is not a mechanical sum of priorities of different parties and departments. It is a consistent document that rests on solid political logic. The focus of the programme is Bulgaria's integration into the European, economic and financial architecture. A particular focus is the improvement of the quality of life of Bulgarian citizens, which includes education, healthcare, urban environment, energy security, independence, following a strategy for diversification of energy sources and development of nuclear energy, Donchev said. He added as a focus of the programme the processes of modernization of the army, his personal ambition being that they should proceed with maximum participation of Bulgarian industry, giving a chance for economic development and the process of innovation, to which all young teams and researchers can contribute.

To ensure the effective implementation of the adopted programme, Tomislav Donchev said that an Integrated Monitoring and Reporting System will be used. It sets specific indicators, a deadline for implementation, a baseline and a target value. The Deputy Prime Minister asked all ministries to nominate one representative from the political cabinet or the administration, who will monitor the progress of the programme in real time.
