Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Shekerletova received the copies of the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of Moldova to Bulgaria Emil Zacota on Thursday at the Foreign Ministry.

The excellent bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Moldova were noted at the meeting. Special attention was paid to Moldova's significant progress in the process of achieving full EU membership and the related reforms in the country, and to Bulgaria's support in overcoming the challenges in the energy sector, diversifying energy sources and improving energy connectivity. Bulgaria's interest in cooperation in countering hybrid threats, aggressive Russian propaganda and disinformation was underlined.

The discussion focused on the numerous historical Bulgarian community in the Republic of Moldova, which numbers about 60,000 people and is a significant factor and a building block in the development of bilateral relations. Shekerletova stressed that Bulgaria's priority remains the preservation of the Taraclia region as an independent administrative-territorial unit, which is of key importance for the preservation of the linguistic and cultural identity of the Bulgarian national minority in Moldova.

Both sides stressed their readiness to develop cooperation between Bulgaria and Moldova in all areas of mutual interest.
