The Bulgarian Navy remains on standby for possible mine countermeasures to ensure safe navigation in the Bulgarian zone of the Black Sea, the Navy press office said on Monday.
Since the start of military action between Russia and Ukraine, helicopters from the Chayka Naval Air Base on the Bulgarian coast have been flying regularly for mine monitoring and water pollution surveillance of the Black Sea. Thirty-three such flights were performed in 2024.
The Chayka Base Command continues to assign helicopters and crews to fly along specified routes to look for possible naval mines drifting in the sea and possible pollution. The flights are planned according to Navy Command guidelines, and the results are reported along the chain of command.
