site.btaGERB Leader Borissov Assures Bulgaria Will Enter Eurozone

Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Friday GERB leader Boyko Borissov responded to accusations by Democratic Bulgaria that the government's first action was to sabotage this country’s accession to the eurozone. “Bulgaria will enter the euro area, this is a political decision and if this does not happen, we have no place in the coalition,” Borissov said.

Borissov reminded Democratic Bulgaria that GERB was the party that brought Bulgaria into the European banking union.

"The party that got the Bulgarians into the eurozone waiting room is called GERB. During this time, Democratic Bulgaria made protests so that we would not enter the euro area together with Croatia. Bulgaria will enter the euro area, we will ask for a convergence report in February (…) This is a political decision and if this does not happen we have no place in the coalition. This is strategically important for Bulgaria," Borissov said.
