Interior Minister Daniel Mitov Friday met with Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Sait Uyanik, his Ministry said. Mitov appreciated highly the constructive political dialogue and partnership between Bulgaria and Turkiye.

He highlighted the strategic nature of bilateral cooperation, including in internal affairs, which is based on mutual trust and high professionalism developed over the years. Bulgaria's chief diplomat expressed readiness to continue regular dialogue at all levels, as well as to expand and deepen collaboration in priority areas and on specific matters.

For his part, Ambassador Uyanik congratulated Mitov on his appointment as Interior Minister in the new regular government. The diplomat also congratulated Bulgaria on its accession to the travel-free Schengen area and the removal of land border controls as of January 1, 2025.

Mitov and the Turkish Ambassador discussed their countries' effective joint efforts to ensure a high level of security at their shared border, reduce migratory pressure, and combat transnational organized crime. They emphasized the achievements in these areas, which contribute to the security of Bulgaria and Turkiye and benefit the citizens of both countries.

Mitov offered condolences on the devastating hotel fire in a ski resort in Turkiye, which claimed many lives.
