The Governing Council of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) decided on Thursday to withdraw from circulation commemorative coins issued in 2019, which cease to be legal tender as of February 3 of this year, the Central Bank said. The decision is based on Art. 26 of the BNB Act.
After this date, the commemorative coins issued in 2019 will be exchanged at the BNB cash desks at face value, without a quantity limit, without a fee and with an exchange period until December 31, 2026, the BNB informed.
A check on the BNB website shows that in 2019 four commemorative coins were issued - Dryanovski Monastery from the Bulgarian Churches and Monasteries series, 150 Years of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi from the Bulgarian Revival series and Plovdiv: European Capital of Culture. The coins are silver and have a nominal value of BGN 10 each.
