Turkiye is scrapping a compulsory departure fee that Turkish citizens pay for trips abroad. The ordinance has been gazetted and will take effect from January 1 2025.

The overseas travel fee is a compulsory measure that has been applied in Turkiye for nearly 40 years.

The value of the fee has changed over the years. At first it was USD 100, then it was reduced and last year it was fixed at TYR 500.

In effect, no adult Turkish citizen can travel abroad without paying this fee in the form of a special coupon with a nominal value of TYR 500.

Coupons purchased in advance for travel abroad will be valid until January 10 2025, the Revenue Agency announced on its website.
