Vice President Iliana Iotova hosted a conference on the role of women in diplomacy in the Presidential Institution building, the head of State's press office said on Friday. The event was organized by the Specialized Administration and Management Institute of La Francophonie with a special guest - Prof. Laurence Badel from the Sorbonne. The conference was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the scientific community.

In her speech the Vice President stressed the need for more women in politics, in negotiation processes. "Women have an unmistakable sense of justice and freedom - concepts that have become devalued over time. We know how to gain trust and build strong relationships, and diplomacy is also built on personal trust. We know how to make well-reasoned policy proposals and find allies to achieve them," the Vice President said.

The Vice President presented Bulgaria's good example in terms of equality between men and women in leadership positions in various fields. About Bulgarian diplomacy, she pointed out that in 34 years there has been a 50% increase in the number of women and today they are about 5% more than men in the diplomatic service. "Over the years, Bulgaria has been successfully represented by women ambassadors in all geographical regions," Iotova pointed out.
