site.btaUPDATED Parliament Leader Wants to See 2025 Budget Adopted by End-December
Bulgaria's Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova Sunday said she would work towards the adoption of the 2025 State Budget Act by December 31. She talked to the media at her first public event since she was elected to the post on December 6.
Kiselova said the budget could be adopted by the year's end, which is what President Rumen Radev also expects. To this end, she will discuss with the MPs if Parliament should hold extraordinary sittings or work between Christmas and New Year's.
Questioned about possible Election Code revisions, Kiselova stressed the budget was a top priority and Parliament should focus on one or two tasks at most. Asked about possible risks to the budget if the debate took place amid political instability, she said this should be a cause for concern to all Bulgarians because "the budget is not a quilt onto which everyone can sew a patch".
Regarding law-making initiatives meant to halt the procedure for Borislav Sarafov's election as Prosecutor General, Kiselova said there were two bills on the matter, which will be discussed once the parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee is set up.
Sarafov is the only candidate for the post and his election by the Supreme Judicial Council is scheduled for January 16. His nomination has sparked a series of protests and strong opposition from political parties and the President.
Kiselova launched her book The Living Constitution at the headquarters of the ABV party, part of the BSP-United Left coalition which nominated her to the post. She said the book launch had been planned before she was elected.
