The Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy (NVNA) in Varna on Wednesday hosted a national scientific conference with the participation of the Maritime Scientific Society organization.
During the conference Fleet Admiral Prof Kalin Kalinov, head of the NVNA, said that representatives of the Bulgarian scientific community are united with a request to the Education and Science Ministry to establish a new scientific programme to support integral research project called Sea.
"The idea is that members of the Maritime Scientific Society can apply for the Sea scientific programme, but the condition will be to approach the problems in a complex manner", he added. He noted that the first priority was the preservation of biodiversity, but that the programme would also deal with climate changes, legal regulations and exploitation of the Black Sea.
The Maritime Scientific Society organization is a partnership initiative for the development of scientific research and innovation in the field of research, protection and management of the sea, created with the ambition to develop policies and projects in the sector of the blue economy. Prof Kalinov recalled that its foundations were laid in 2023 by 12 research organizations, including seven universities. During the current term, NVNA is the chair of the Association.
