About 50 owners with dogs, cats and exotic animals took part in a pet parade in Ruse on Sunday, said Aleksandrina Koleva from the Ruse Free Spirit City Municipal Foundation, who organized the parade. Among the exotic animals that joined the parade were chinchillas, decorative bunnies and a guinea pig.

"It is extremely important that people are aware of how long their pet lives normally and under what conditions it can have a quality life", said Ventsislav Petkov, curator at the Ruse Regional Museum. "In 90% of cases, people indulge in the emotion and beauty of the animal and do the so-called spontaneous purchases without being prepared", he noted, adding that the pets are then released into nature and thus become invasive species.

Petkov emphasized that invasive species are a global problem that leads to extinction and to pressure on nature in places where these species are generally not found. According to him, the most common invasive species in nature in our country are red-cheeked turtles.

During the parade, the initiative of the municipal shelter for homeless animals in Ruse was presented again, aimed at the adoption of four-legged animals.
