The meeting of Parliament’s Presiding Body was strange and absolutely pointless, as it could not decide anything, There Is Such a People (TISP) Floor Leader Toshko Yordanov told journalists in Parliament here on Tuesday after the meeting of its Presiding Body.
“Vazrazhdane did not show up. Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) came, saw [Movement for Rights and Freedoms Floor Leader] Delyan Peevski and left. The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) said they believe this Parliament has been exhausted and no changes should be made. You know what GERB said – nothing new. The MRF want elections,” Yordanov said. He reiterated TISP’s position that the ill-thought-out constitutional amendments have led to the current situation. According to him, the procedures for electing the two Bulgarian National Audit Office (BNAO) vice presidents, ombudsman, deputy ombudsman and one central bank deputy governor [these are part of the pool of potential candidates for caretaker prime minister from which the President can pick] should be accelerated as soon as possible.
Asked whether incumbent caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev is no longer part of the pool of candidates, because he cannot return to his post as BNAO president due to the fact that he also served as caretaker Foreign Minister, Yordanov criticized the constitutional changes once again. “If he is dropped [from the candidates pool], let it be so. They should have thought about it earlier. There’s no problem electing a new BNAO president,” he said.
