Sofia, February 19 (BTA) - On Thursday Bulgaria marked the 147th
death anniversary of its Apostle of Liberty, revolutionary
Vassil Levski.

Addressing  a commemorative ceremony at Levski's monument in
Sofia, President Rumen Radev said that Bulgaria's freedom and
dignity are neither inherited not possible to borrow. "Every
generation fights its own battles for them. Our battle for
Levski's ideal is now," Radev said.

The head of State went on to say that the free speech, fair
elections, separation of powers that underpin democracy "have
been abducted and marred".

Radev said that the cause of Bulgaria's woes is the people's
despondency, acquiescence with dishonesty, plunder, poverty,
injustice.

The ceremony was also addressed by Sofia Mayor Yordanka
Fandakova and writer Zdravka Evtimova. National Assembly Chair
Tsveta Karayancheva, other MPs, politicians and many people
attended the event. NV/ZH
