site.btaDomestic Trips by Bulgarians Dominated Fourth Quarter of 2019

February 20 (BTA) - In the fourth quarter of 2019, 1,302,500 Bulgarians made tourist trips, the National Statistical Institute said on Thursday. The majority (81.1 per cent) of them travelled within the country, 17.1 per cent - abroad and 1.8 per cent - both in the country and abroad.

Year-on-year the total number of travellers aged 15 and over increased by 18.9 per cent.

In the fourth quarter of 2019, at 625,000 Bulgarians aged 25-44 made the most trips, or 48.0 per cent of all travellers. All age groups were dominated by domestic trips. The majority were made by people aged 25-44, or 86.7 per cent. People aged 45-64 made the most trips abroad, at 24.3 per cent.

Persons aged 15 and over made domestic trips to visit relatives (47 per cent), while those who went abroad went on holiday and recreation (54.9 per cent).

In the fourth quarter of 2019, 1,486,000 or 88.4 per cent of the total number of private tourist trips were registered as independent. The relative share of independent domestic trips was 92.1 per cent, while of those abroad was 67.4 per cent.

In the structure of expenditures by type food expenditures had the highest relative share on domestic trips (39.7 per cent), compared with transport in outbound trips (33.9 per cent).

In the fourth quarter of 2019 a person aged 15 and over spent on average 172.07 leva in the country for a private trip and 545.65 leva for private trip abroad.

Meanwhile, the average per capita expenditure for business trips in the country was 167.84 leva and 1,063.79 leva for business trips abroad. RI/PP
