A total of 17 parties and coalitions have submitted their lists of candidates for North Macedonia's May 8 parliamentary elections to the State Election Commission before the midnight deadline, local media reported on Wednesday. Thirteen of these parties will run in all six constituencies.

The parliamentary elections will be the eleventh since North Macedonia’s independence and will be held simultaneously with the presidential election runoff. The first round of the presidential race will take place on April 24.

According to the latest changes to the Electoral Code, the parties and coalitions with candidates for head of state will appear on the ballot for the presidential elections in the same order as on the ballot for the parliamentary elections. The order of the rest of the presidential candidates on the ballot has been determined by the drawing of lots.

The parliamentary election campaign begins on April 18 and will not be suspended during the days of reflection for the presidential elections, according to a decision of the State Election Commission. The presidential election campaign starts on April 4.

A total of 1,815,350 citizens are eligible to vote for parliament and 1,814,317 for president.

Running in the parliamentary elections will be the coalitions led by the major parties: the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM), VMRO – Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE), and the Democratic Union for Integration. Also registered to participate a coalition of the Albanian opposition parties called VLEN (Worth), the ZNAM (I Know) Movement, Citizens Option for Macedonia (GROM), the Left, Rodina, the Workers' Party, Brave for Macedonia, Macedonian Era Third Sovereignty, Democrats, United Macedonia, Desna (Right), Avaya, Your Party, and New Alternative, as well as a group of list holders running in the sixth constituency only.
