1869: Bulgarian Literary Society (since 1911: Bulgarian Academy of Sciences) founded in Braila, Romania.
1884: Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia conclude customs convention on duty-free import of staple local goods.
1916: French Farman F-42 sent to bomb Sofia is downed during World War I (1914-1918). First victory for Bulgarian air force.
1918: Armistice between Bulgaria and the Entente Powers signed in Thessaloniki.
1992: United Bulgarian Bank founded.
2003: Bulgaria launches e-government.
2004: Council of Ministers approves Bulgaria's accession to European Community's Trans-European Telecommunications Networks.
2008: National system using single EU emergency phone number 112 attains 100 per cent nationwide coverage.
2013: Analogue terrestrial television signal replaced with digital television.

1888: Sofia University, Bulgaria's oldest institution of higher education, opens.
1915: King Ferdinand I declares war on Serbia and Bulgaria enters World War I (1914-1918) on the side of the Central Powers.
1947: Diplomatic relations with the US are restored. First established in 1901 at legation level; promoted to embassy level in 1966.
1961: A Higher Medical Institute is set up in Varna. Transformed into a Medical University in 1995.
1992: The Agency for Bulgarians Abroad is set up.
