There is heavy traffic at Bulgaria's border control checkpoints with Romania and Greece, Border Police said on their website Friday. The information is valid as at 6 am.

At the border with Romania, there is heavy traffic for trucks exiting Bulgaria through the Kardam, Nikopol, and Durankulak checkpoints. Using alternative routes is advised. At Oryahovo, the ferry remains closed due to the low water level of the Danube. Due to repair works of the Giurgiu-Ruse bridge over the Danube on the Bulgarian side, traffic is controlled by  traffic lights to let vehicles through in stages. Alternatives for the drivers in the region are the Silistra, Kaynardzha, and Kroushari crossings. The last two of these are closed to heavy-duty trucks; they are open to passenger cars from 8 am to 8 pm.

At the border with Greece, there is heavy traffic for both passengers cars and trucks at the Kulata border crossing. Because of the increased number of Romanian tourists passing thorough the Kulata and Makaza checkpoints on their way to or out of Greece, Bulgaria’s Border Police advises motorists to use alternative, less congested routes. Tourists travelling to resorts in the area of Thessaloniki, Kavala and the Chalkidiki peninsula can pass through the Ilinden border crossing as an alternative to the one at Kulata. People travelling to resorts in the area of Xanthi, Komotini and the islands of Thassos can use the Zlatograd border crossing as an alternative to Makaza. Those headed to resorts near the town of Alexandroupolis are advised to go through the Kaptain Petko Voyvoda checkpoint. Only cars and vans are allowed to pass through the border crossings Makaza, Zlatograd and Ivaylovgrad.

Traffic at the border crossings with North Macedonia and Serbia is normal.
