In the second quarter of 2024, the vacancy rate in the European Union fell to 2.4% of all jobs, down from 2.6% in the first quarter, according to the latest Eurostat data published on Friday on the statistics agency's website.

Over the same period in the euro area, job vacancies stood at 2.6%, down from 2.9% reported in the previous quarter. 

In the EU, job vacancies in the second quarter were 2.2% in industry and construction and 2.7% in the services sector. In the currency union, these shares were 2.3 in industry and 2.9% construction and services. 

Among the EU member states for which data is available, the highest vacancy rates in the second quarter of 2024 were recorded in Belgium and the Netherlands (4.4% each) and Austria (4%). In contrast, the lowest vacancy rates are recorded in Romania (0.7%), Bulgaria (0.8%), Poland and Spain (0.9% each).
