Caretaker Culture Minister to Push for Bigger Outlays for Culture in 2015 Budget
Sofia, September 11 (BTA) - Caretaker Culture Minister Martin
Ivanov said during a meeting in his Ministry Thursday that he
will insist for at least 130 million leva in culture expenditure
in the 2015 budget.
The meeting analysed the model of financing of the performance
arts and ways to avoid the annual end-of-year shortage of money
for theatres and opera houses.
Ivanov said that culture expenditure is "humiliatingly small".
In 2014 it totalled just 120 million leva, which he said was
"below the critical minimum" to tackle problems in the sector
that have been accumulating for many years.
Ivanov voiced a hope that all political forces running in the
October 5 parliamentary elections will commit themselves to
increasing culture outlays each year so that the expenditure
reaches at least 1 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product. "Only
in this way culture will be a priority," he said. SN /ZH/
