Bulgaria Reports 950% Increase in Sales of  Electric Vehicles

Sofia, February 8 (BTA) - Bulgaria has reported a 950 per cent increase in the sales of new electric vehicles bought from the official importers in 2015, show data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) on Monday. This impressive rise in demand, which is a record for the countries in the euro zone, is the result of 21 deals concluded last year compared to 2 deals in 2014.

At present, electric vehicles in Bulgaria amount to slightly over 500, including those modified by eco-enthusiasts, and hybrid electric vehicles total nearly 1,100. Official importers currently offer seven models on the market.

A total of 146,161 electric vehicles were purchased in the EU in 2015, or by 108.8 per cent more compared to 2014. The highest demand was reported in the Netherlands, where a total of 43,441 electric vehicles were sold (up by 193.4 per cent), followed by the United Kingdom with 28,715 and Germany with 23,481 electric vehicles (up by 96.6 and 79 per cent, respectively).
