Justice Minister Zaharieva Receives Delegation from German Federal Ministry of Justice

Sofia, April 21 (BTA) - Justice Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva on Wednesday received a delegation from the German Federal Ministry of Justice.

Zaharieva briefed Christian Lange, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Justice and MP, on changes to the Constitution and the Judicial System Act and the organization and work of the Supreme Judicial Council. Minister Zaharieva said that while 2015 was the year of strategies, 2016 will be the year of judicial reforms.

For his part Lange said the Germany too prioritized the fight against corruption, with a special law against high-echelon corruption and a bill against corruption in healthcare.

Lange heads the German delegation to a Council of Europe conference of justice ministers in Sofia on April, 21 and 22 hosted and co-organized by the Bulgarian Justice Ministry.

Minister Zaharieva hailed the efforts of the Council of Europe which paved the way for the adoption of an action plan to strengthen judicial indepenence and impartiality, which will be discussed at the conference.
