EU Emissions Trading System Does Not Lead to Cleaner Air in Bulgaria

Sofia, July 6 (BTA) - The EU emissions trading system (EU ETS) does not fulfil one of its additional functions in Bulgaria - to engender cleaner air, WWF Bulgaria said in a statement about the effectiveness of the system on the national level.

A report of the organization says that Bulgaria is among the top five EU member states with coal power plants that cause the biggest harm outside the territory of the country. Two Bulgarian coal power stations are included in the list of the 30 installations in the EU most harmful to human health.
