Miners at Babino Mine End Protest

Sofia, October 14 (BTA) - The miners at the Babino Mine ended their protest on Thursday night but remain ready to resume it, the steering committee which organized the strike said on Friday.

More than 100 miners remained underground for three days pressing demands for back wages and against pay and benefit cuts. The protest ended late on Thursday night after payment started of the back wages of the workers.

New talks start of Friday to decide the future of the mine.

Meanwhile on Thursday evening, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov ordered for a procedure to be launched into the withdrawal of the concession for the extraction of coal at the Babino Mine if wages continue not to be paid to miners, the government's information service said.

The General Labour Inspectorate said that an administrative sanction will be imposed on the employer over the non-payment of wages.

The national radio said on Friday that Bobov Dol-Coal Mining Executive Director Krassimir Chavraganski has tendered his resignation around midnight to Friday, which was accepted by the representatives of the holding.
