17 Year-old Bulgarian Kristian Kostov Wins Second Place in Eurovision Song Contest

Kiev, May 14 (BTA) - The 17 year-old Bulgarian Kristian Kostov won second place in the Eurovision song contest - the best result Bulgaria has achieved so far. Kostov's song Beautiful Mess" brought him second place after the final contest, held in the Ukrainian capital late on Saturday.

The 27 year-old singer, Salvador Sobral, from Portugal won the contest with his song "Amar Pelos Dois", written by his sister and performed in his native language. This is Portugal's first victory in the contest's history.

The Portuguese and the Bulgarian singers ranked among the first two in both the jury and televoting results. Four countries - Macedonia, Belarus, Norway and Estonia, ranked the Bulgarian song first. In the end, the Portuguese song topped the chart with 758 points, ahead of Kostov's 615 points. Moldova's song "Hey Mamma" was supported by TV viewers and won third place.

Speaking after the final, Kostov thanked Bulgaria and his fans, who have firmly stood behind him, admitting that he was expecting to win. The Bulgarian singer also said that he had done his best with the song.

Media representatives from across the world voted and recognized Bulgaria as having the best special effects and best stage performance in this year's Eurovision contest.

Singer Poli Genova ranked fourth in last year's Eurovision, while Elitsa Todorova and Stoyan Yankulov made it to fifth place back in 2007.
