Prime Minister Voices Expectation
for Swift Start of Repairs
of Su-25 Aircraft

August 24 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Saturday visited Bezmer Air Base to familiarize himself with the condition of Su-25 jet aircraft stationed there.

In a Facebook post Borissov wrote that the government has honoured its commitment and has allocated 82.5 million leva for their repair.

"I was informed that the Defence Ministry has already transferred the money to the company which will carry out the repairs. I expect that in the shortest time the relevant authorities will prepare the aircraft for shipping so that repair works can begin," wrote Borissov. According to him, the repairs will make the aircraft flightworthy again and will maintain Bulgaria's defence capabilities until the acquisition of a new type of fighter jet by the Bulgarian Air Force.

On July 26, Bulgaria's National Assembly ratified the purchase of eight F-16 Block 70 fighter jets from the US. IG/PP
