August 26 (BTA) - Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and
Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva Monday met with Romanian
Prime Minister Viorica Dancila in Bucharest, the Foreign
Ministry said.

Zaharieva is on a one-day working visit to Romania.

Zaharieva and Dancila discussed various aspects of bilateral
relations and the results of the Bulgarian and Romanian stints
at the EU Council Presidency in the first half of 2018 and of
2019 respectively.

Dancila assured Zaharieva that Bucharest would back Sofia's
nominee to the European Commission, adding that the level of
cooperation between the two countries is really excellent.

Zaharieva said Romania was one of the first countries she had
visited as foreign minister. She praised the Romanian teams
responsible for the EU Council Presidency, saying that both
Bulgaria and Romania proved they can cope perfectly with such
challenges. Unfortunately, the two countries, which have
excellent diplomats, are far from sufficiently represented at
the European External Action Service, Zaharieva noted. She
singled out the appointment of Mircea Geoana as NATO  Deputy
Secretary General and Kristalina Georgieva's nomination as IMF
Managing Director as examples to follow. IG/DD
