Transport Ministry to Assist Carriers in  Seeking Compensations from Greece

Sofia, February 15 (BTA) - The Ministry of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications (MTITC) will provide prompt assistance to Bulgarian carriers in seeking compensations from Greece because of the border blockade, the Ministry said on Monday.

The issue was discussed earlier in the day by Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Anton Ginev and carriers' representatives. Apart from logistic and legal support, they requested legislative possibilities to file claims with Greek courts for the financial and economic losses sustained.

MTITC has promptly undertaken actions to study the case-law related to similar situations and will duly inform the Bulgarian carriers of the results.

For about four weeks now, several crossings on Greece's border with Bulgaria have been blocked and unblocked sporadically by Greek farmers protesting against pension reforms that will increase dramatically their social security contributions.
